This is completely different from my memory of the sequence of events: Keith Bostic announced the net2 tape on comp.bugs.4bsd.ucb-fixes on July 3, 1992 (I saved the article). I did not save the article from UUNET that announced that they had it online, but I did grab it right away, and since my net2 dir is dated Jan 4 1992, I believe UUNET put net2 up at the end of December. That's six months delay. I remember it well because I could not afford the $800+ for a tape myself and was unsuccessful in pursuading the powers that be to part with that amount in the heat of the budget slashes. I couldn't understand why net2 had not appeared on the internet anywhere; it seemed quite strange to me. So I was relieved when uunet finally put net-2 up, and explained that the delay was due to temporary restrictions on the export of networking software imposed by the U.S. Government because of the war. Anyone else remember it the way I do?
