The kernel on the tiny floppy misread the disk params, and although it built the file system, the thing would never boot. In the end I got NetBSD, and installed that. In a similar manner it gave the wrong figures when it scanned the disk (wrong heads, tracks, sectors etc) but when it asked those questions during installation, I simply gave it the right params and it installed fine. One thing I did find though. Neither system would boot when I had the "BIOS Support for More than Two drives" option enabled. If you get really stuck, mail me and I'll send you a copy of the board settings I'm, running with. Its currently support a DEC drive and an HP Dat tape quite happily...
