I don't know about any verdict, but to my knowledge the one
incompatibilty between net/386bsd and the 1542c was fixed quite a
while ago. There *have* been lots of problems reported with the
1542c but most if not all of those have turned out to be
*hardware* problems. In particular, the 1542c is apparently
*extremely* picky about the cables you use to connect external
devices. In my case, there was a subtle conflict between the
1542c and the IDE controller on the motherboard. Since disabling
the IDE controller, everything works great.

BTW, I have a new 240 meg conner IDE drive for sale. $300 or
trade for a comparable SCSI drive. I called conner and the
warranty *is* transferable. Contact me at
jfieber@sophia.smith.edu if you are interested.
