There is a real problem with improper cables on the 1542C. After disabling the internal terminator on the controller and aplying an external terminator I had no further problems. The only problems for people using only SCSI drives is that i can't get the beast to boot from the SCSI drive. So I but from my old ESDI and mount the SCSI into the system.
