Message-ID: <haley.740938351@husc.harvard.edu> From: haley@scws4.harvard.edu (Elizabeth Haley) Date: 24 Jun 93 16:12:31 GMT Keywords: AAAAAAAAAAAUGHH! Nntp-Posting-Host: scws4.harvard.edu Lines: 46 Ya know, the reason I got into computing was cause it didn't have any of the contentiousness of my childhood interactions with the neighborhood kids... There was always one demi-faction or another saying that someone was this weeks evil person. But computing people were nice, they had neato programs, and if you wanted a copy, the most the would do is ask you for a blank tape or disk. And if you could make an improvement that they liked that was great, but if they didn't like it, well, the most that was ever said is "I don't think *I* need that" or "You might do it like this..." Now, I realize that things have become a bit more complicated for some of you, but I would venture that 90% of us out here in USENETland are still in computing cause we think it's pretty neat. I, for one, am very tired of seeing this particular set of grumblings. I really do not believe that Chris D. et al made NetBSD so as to step on yer toes, Bill J. And I similarly refuse to believe that Bill Jolitz lies awake at night trying to think of ways to discredit NetBSD, Chris. If either of you are, in fact, doing these things, what a monumental waste! It is clear that NetBSD and 386bsd-0.1 or 0.2 serve different purposes, AND THAT IS GREAT! It gives the community at large some choice, to either go with the cutting edge of stability or the cutting edge of a new system, or, in the case of our financially endowed bretheren and sistren, both. And for those, like myself, who still haven't made up their minds, the patchkit. (Thanks to the patchkit folks!) (Yeah, yeah, the patchkit is not necessarily right in the middle, but it is for me, and I may just stay here... Old political habit...) So please, STOP FIGHTING. If you don't approve of the code someone wrote, either make it better, or don't use it. It's not too damn hard. -- If you love your fun... |[{(<=--=>)}]|David Charles Todd, tHE mAN wITH tHREE fIRST nAMES|[{(<=--=>)}]| |||||||||||||||||||||||||hacksaw@headcheese.daa.uc.edu|||||||||||||||||||||||| ...Die for it!
