Hello,
I'm currently trying to install 386BSD on a machine with
the following main hardware features:
Motherboard .......... Madex EISA i486DX/50 286 AMI-BIOS
Memory ............... 32 MB (8 x 4MB)
Host-Adapter ......... Adaptec AHA-1742A (Standard Mode)
Harddisk ............. DEC DSP3105S (1050 MB)
I want to run 386BSD as on all other machines I already installed it,
but the SCSI-Drive hates me :-(. All other machines I installed via
the DIST.FS and FIXIT.FS (0.1pk0.2.3) floppy disks. For this machine
I need SCSI-support, so I tried
- the usal 386BSD DISK.FS
This one didn't find my AHA-Adapter correctly.
- the 386BSD kernal-copy-disk from agate
This one panics after kernal load!
- the NetBSD kernel-copy-disk (KC-AHA.FS) from agate
This one works fine, it supports the SCSI drive and I am
able to start the INSTALL1.FS disk. After partitioning
the SCSI drive with the partition parameters (I want 5
partitions: /, /var, /usr, /opt and /home) the install
script begins with making a newfs for each partition.
After the 3 (allways after the third!) partition, I get
vm_fault(fe2c3200, 81931000, 1, 0) -> 1
type c, code fe860000
trap type 12 code = fe860000 eip = fe04f028 cs = fe860008 eflags= 10246 cr2 819
31...
and the machine stops! If I tried to select only 2
partitions I didn't get such a trap! I have also
tried both translated and untranslated harddisk
parameter (I think translated params for disklabel
is correct, isn't it?), but the same effect.
What can I do? This machine runs pretty well under DOS with this
hardware configuration and all I want now is to use the whole harddisk
for 386BSD (or NetBSD, but I will decide later) with a partition-table
of
Device Size Mounted On
---------- -------- -----------
/dev/sd0a 15 MB /
/dev/sd0b 70 MB <swap>
/dev/sd0c <whole 386bsd partition>
/dev/sd0d <whole physical harddisk>
/dev/sd0e 130 MB /var
/dev/sd0f 250 MB /usr
/dev/sd0g 250 MB /opt
/dev/sd0h 330 MB /home
Was anyone successful with such a configuration? Especially did
anyone managed to run the AHA-1742A successfully? And if yes, HOW HAVE
YOU DONE IT?
Thanks for replies and followups in advance!
