Is there a new device in this patch-kit ? Yes, if you RTFM you will find that there is a new device 'sio' which is on all counts better than the old 'com' driver. What it does not say in the stuff with the patchkit is that it expects to be major device number 28 but there is a strong hint in /dev/MAKEDEV. Actually the documentation with the patch suggests major device number 8, but this seems to be out of date. The new serial driver is great, in addition to being faster it also fixes the sigHUP problem and the 7E1 problem. At last a serial port that behaves like a serial port. -- adam@veda.is
