Mostly because I'm not a wizard (yet), and like to have a fallback when I can't fix something. This is where BSDI is a big win. *THEY PROVIDE SUPPORT*. As to X on BSDI, I've been using it since I got 1.0 with an EISA ATI Ultra Pro with no problems whatsoever. I did notice it doesn't restore the text screen properly when it exits, but since I never exit, I don't really care. The machine boots into X and stays there until I shut it down. >Just out of curiosity, did you report the problem to BSDI >for a fix? If they can't talk to me immediately, I've always been called back within 15 minutes. Most of the problems were just my lack of understanding BSD, but one was a genuine bug. I had a patch in my hands via e-mail in about half an hour. I find that incredible to say the least. I was very impressed. Just my $0.02.
