I would suggest Gateway as the >mailorder company to beat in terms of price, support, stability and user >confidence, based on what I've heard; I'd like to say that I've NOT had good experiences ordering computers from Gateway. It's been 1 1/2 months since we (where I work) ordered 5 Gateway machines. Three weeks ago we found that they had NO record of our order (yes, purchasing sent them the order), and so we fax'd them a copy of the order. Today I called them for the third time since three weeks ago, and the sales rep said that they had just gotten it through accounting today. Hopefully they'll be in the mail by Friday. The point of this gripe is to tell people that there are other companies that deliver comparable computers for much less than Gateway (eg Comtrade 486 DX 33, local bus 250 Mb HD, 15" flat screen CTX monitor, 128 Kb cache, VLB S3-805 by Diamond, but you can trade it for something comparable like Orchid Farenheit, with Windows and MS-DOS 6 for less that $ 2000). Not to mention that from the time of ordering to receiving the Comtrade was 2 1/2 weeks, you aren't required to choose from selected software, and upgrades (CD-ROM, 17" monitor, etc) that are also much cheaper. Well, this has been much longer than expected, I'll stop wasting bandwidth. -Claus Schwinge
