Sender: news@sserve.cc.adfa.oz.au Organization: Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra, Australia Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1993 03:05:09 GMT We are having problems here with XFree86 1.3 on a Total Peripherals NSD486 laptop. he original symptom was that the system hung when exiting X, with no response from the keyboard short of a reboot. More detailed testing isolated the problem to running kbd_mode -a which is supposed to reset the keyboard to ascii. Unfortunately this program never exits. Using a modified version of the program, we have found that the ioctl call to CONSOLE_X_MODE_OFF returns ok, but the subsequent close of the file descriptor fd for /dev/vga never returns. Help!!!! I assume there is some problem in the interaction between the kernal drivers and our system hardware. but I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks in anticipation Lawrie Brown & Warren Toomey
