I decided to install 386bsd recently and wanted some questions
answered before I did that. I have read the FAQ but apparently the
answers to some of my questions weren't there.
(1) Does the bindist in agate.berkeley.edu come with the patchkit
applied? If not, where can I find a ftp location which has all the
patches applied.
(2) These binaries are compiled with gcc-1.37 (correct me if I am
wrong). How do newer versions of gcc do? (Any increase in
performance?)
(3) How much disk space would a comfortable install of 386bsd and
Xfree86 take? (I know the answer to this has been alluded to in
the FAQ, but there seems to be no definite range)
(4) The install process is slightly vague. Do I first get the bindist
and put them in floppies (how many are needed?) and then use the
"boot disk"? Does the boot disk partition the hard drive by
itself? Can I control how much space that is allocated to each
partition?
(5) I want to be able to boot either from DOS or from unix at will.
The faq says there are programs which enable me to do this. Where
do I get them?
(6) Given this scenario (that I want to be able to boot from either
DOS or unix) what method of installing 386bsd is recommended?
Please reply by e-mail.
Thanks,
Sridhar
