The performance advantage of a DX over an SX for UNIX is compelling, and DX motherboards are so cheap (I've seen a '25 for $260, a '33 for $300) that there's no point wasting your time on an SX unless you're doing a laptop. Plus, if you really want to go cheap you can save about $300 by using an IDE drive instead of a SCSI one, simply because IDE controllers are effectively free.
