I'm glad to see such an honest opionion from somebody working at Sun. More over, I agree completely with this statement. I am very familiar with SunOS 4.1.x, and like it a lot. I am getting to know Solaris 2.2 better, and find it quite usable. In time it's quite possible that I may get to prefer Solaris 2.x over SunOS 4.1.3. Yes, Sun has done some bad things in connection with the introduction of Solaris 2.x. But things are improving... As for myself, I'm looking forward to 2.3, which should be released some time this fall/winter. And I'm also looking forward to BSD 4.4 on Suns, but that won't happen until the lawsuit between USL and BSDI/UCB has been settled... BSD 4.4 will only run on the sun4c architecture, as far as I know. Anyone for porting to sun4m?
