Date: 23 Jul 1993 14:04:18 GMT Organization: Australian National University Lines: 36 Message-ID: <22or52$7ov@manuel.anu.edu.au> NNTP-Posting-Host: 150.203.5.2 I have "inherited" the following board from off the AT bus on a Sun 386i, has anyone encountered one like it and does it work with 386bsd? >From the manual : "The Emulex DCP-286i is a high-performance, miltiprotocol communications processor for IBM PC products with on-board intelligence in the form of an Intel 286 microprocessor. <marketing guff deleted> The DCP-286i fits in a singel full-sized expansion slot of an IBM PC, PC/XT or PC/AT. It is capable of operating in an 8-bit mode with a singel connector or in 16-bit mode with 2 connectors. The standard version consists of 3 basic sub- assemblies. The motherboard, the dautherboard and a breakout cable. Other dautherboards are available .... Memory size options include 128k or 512k (the one I have seems to have 512k). The DCP-286i can share memory with the PC host through a shared (dual-ported) window, the size of which is selectable through s/w and plug positioning. The standard DCP-286i contains up to 4 programmable ports (mine has 4). Each port can be set uo as either sybchronous or asynchronous. Four DMA channels are s/w configurable to 2 full-duplex or 4 half-duplex lines. The serial ports are implemented by an 85C30 SCC Communications Controller chip residing on the dautherboard." All this sounds great for all sorts of things if I can get it going. Anyone with suggestions as to how this board can be used under 386bsd? -- Mathew Lim, Unix Systems Programmer, ANU Supercomputer Facility, Australian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia 0200.
