I'm presently building my first gcc2 kernel as I type.

I did this (I think):

o make a gcc1 -current kernel.
o if it works, recompile and install ar, tsort, nm, ranlib, dmsym, and ld.
  Then make gcc2.  install gcc2.
o recompile /usr/src again.  Most of it at least.  Be sure to make the libs
  and install them first.
o I remade gcc2 again at this point, Just In Case.
o make a new kernel with gcc2.

I'll let you know if it all works. ;)
