I am running the inn news system and get my newsfeed via uucp. I am
having problems with permissions. I am running the BIDIR stuff and
so want to receive calls and let uucp call out.

If uucp owns the uucp stuff, then uucp can call out but when uux runs,
it dies complaining that rnews cannot be setgid to whatever group I
have it set to. Conversely, if root owns the uucp stuff, uucico can't
call out and complains of a hangup signal. So...

What are the permissions and ownerships of rnews and uux supposed to be?

I don't know, but I do remember having to hack one of the source files in INN
to get it to work on 386bsd. I had to remove the setgid calls that were
failing. It looked to me like there might be a problem with the semantics
of setgid on 386bsd, but to tell you the truth I'm not really sure what the
behavior is supposed to be so I didn't follow it up.

Maybe someone else knows more.
