Center (ZDV) U of Tuebingen, FRG Lines: 28 OK, I tried to port ingres rel8.5 (or so) to 386bsd but it seemed to be too ancient to me, that I won't try any longer. On the other hand it was rather small. Today I picked postgres 3.1 and I will try againg, hoping that I will not find too many calls for ftime(), ecvt(), gtty() and more obsolete functions, as I experienced with ingres. But postgres is big, somewhat 4 times as big as ingres. Size is a limiting factor on small UNIX-systems like 386bsd. Anyway ingres compiled readyly with GCC 1.39 -traditional but it doesn't work yet. There is a bug in the QUEL's read-eval-print loop. I don't know and gdb still doesn't work. If anybody wants to try his/her debugging skills, I will happily send either my whole ingres subtree or the patches I made. A small working ingres may still be better than a disk-storage-crowding postgres, whose feautures you don't really need. Feel free to mail me for ingres. Ingres, Postgres --- whatever, I need any relational database system. If anybody has experience with any other (free) db-system any hint is very much appreachiated. I will try to port it to 386bsd. Even better: If anybody allready successfuly ported any db-system to 386bsd please inform me or the newsgroup and make your work available for all of us --- Thank you. regards -Gunther -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gunther Schadow, e-mail: Gunther@mailserv.ZDV.Uni-Tuebingen.DE Sudetenstrasse 25, Phone: (49) 7071/37527 7400 Tuebingen, Germany.__________Stop__________Horn Please!__________O.K.
