Rezac) Newsgroups: comp.os.386bsd.misc Subject: Using the sio ports with a Modem Message-ID: <1872@dcsc.dla.mil> Date: 29 Jul 93 11:35:33 GMT Organization: Defense Construction Supply Center, Columbus Lines: 40 I now have patchkit 0.2.4 installed, and I am trying to get the sio ports to work with a modem. I have been working with this for a while, and am finally asking the net for help. My system is as follows: 386bsd patchlevel 0.2.4 80386 pc with 8m ram, 2 serial ports on mb. Zenith 2400 baud modem (Hayes compatable) I have not been able to get the sio ports to work with my modem. I noticed that the instructions for comcontrol indicated that the tty and cau devices should be major device 8 - since sio uses major number 28, I have set them up with that (tty00 28,0 - cau00 28,128). comcontrol seems to work, and if I echo something to the device, I see the rd and sd lights flash, but I am unable to control the modem (i.e atz ats0=1 have no effect). I have set up the tty00 with stty to 2400 baud, -clocal, and all other settings are at the default. If I try to set up the port with /etc/tty , ps will show that the getty is running, but when I call the modem, I get no response. I am new at setting up a comunication port with unix, so any help would be appreciated. Duane L.
