Hi. I seem to recall a thread (in comp.os.386bsd.questions) a while ago
that talked about a problem with large compiles hanging machines. I'm running
into this problem currently. I'm trying to build groff-1.08 using gcc-2.4.5,
and gmake. Whenever I do gmake MAKE=gmake, it will start building, and after
compiling one file or so, it will start to take an insane amount of time to
compile a file. I can suspend the process and that's how I knwo its not hung.
If i let it keep compiling for over say 20 minutes or so, I can't suspend the
process and the machine is dead. It won't take any more input, and it won't
take any logins (though it will respond to a ping). I don't know what's wrong.
is it gcc? is it groff? gmake? NetBSD?
Thanx...alex...
