I am not lucky enough to use the modem. Here are the questions:

1. Which device driver should I use? How should I create the device
special file? It is com3 as the 'dmesg' shows:

pc0<color> at 0x60 irq 1 on isa
com0 at 0x3f8 irq 4 on isa
com1 at 0x2f8 irq 3 on isa
com3 fifo at 0x2e8 irq 9 on isa
lpa0 at 0x378-0x37f on isa
fd0 drives 0: 1.44M, 1: 1.2M at 0x3f0 irq 6 drq 2 on isa
wd0 0:<WDC AC2340H> 1:<wdgetctlr failed, assuming OK> at 0x1f0 irq 14 on isa
npx0 at 0xf0 irq 13 on isa

That is, which major and minor numbers should I use in 'mknod'?

2. Which files other than /etc/remote and /etc/phones should I set up? Does
anybody have the /etc/remote entry for the sporster?

Thanks for the answer.
