This is definitly one for the FAQ list when it comes out.

In /etc/ttys, change the console line to:

console "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" unknown on secure

and in gettytabs ( the place various tty options live) make sure the Pc
entry is:

P|Pc|Pc Console:\
	:np:ap:sp#9600

The man page for gettytab describes the options for these entries.
