When I last hacked on MGR years ago at Bellcore, it was very portable;
all it really requires is that you be able to do an mmap of the
display into your address space, or an equivalent. (Without being able
to get the bitmap into your memory space things get hard.)

Ask Steve Uhler, the author of MGR, if you have real questions (he's
