Well, I'm back, with yet more questions from the new-loser (er, new-user) category. Here's the scoup: I've got a GVC Ethernet Card (NE2000 compatible), and I'm trying to connect it to a dos machine with NCSA Telnet (for starters)... Upon booting up I get: --------------------------------------------------------------------- "ne0 at 0x300 irq 9 on isa ethernet address 00:c0:a8:00:3d:05Automatic reboot in progress... /dev/rwd0a: 1360 files, 18617 used, 18790 free (102 frags, 2236 blocks, 0.3% fragmentation) /dev/rwd0e: 15325 files, 399860 used 113606 free (9222 frags, 13048 blocks, 1.8% fragmentation) starting network ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface localhost: bad value localhost: bad value starting system logger, time daemon. building databases... syslogd: bind: Can't assign requested address Aug 15 23:29:41 timed[47]: bind: Can't assign requested address preserving editor files clearing /tmp standard daemons: update crond. starting network daemons: routedbind: Can't assign requested address printer portmap rwalld sendmailCannot read frozen config file inetd. starting local daemons:. Sun Aug 15 blah blah blah..." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Okey dokey... here's the questions: 1) How do you remove fragmentation? (lame eh?) I guess Norton Speed Disk wouldn't work eh? <g> 2) What's the problem with ifconfig showing no such interface? 3) localhost: bad value? twice? 4) bind: can't assign requested address (twice) 5) Most perplexing: *Cannot read frozen config file* -- how do I thaw it out? ;-) also, I decided to recompile the kernel, and see if that'd warm up the frigid config file... but this is all I get: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- cd /sys/i386/conf config AGAPE ../../compile/AGAPE: No such file or directory ----------------------------------------------------------------------- AGAPE is the system name, and the name of the file I copied the GENERICISA file to... (but it does the same thing if I try to compile the GENERICISA file as well...) I'm going to switch to 0.9 on the 23rd for sure, but I'd like to know what the problems are so I don't keep banging my head up against a wall :-| Thanks again!
