hi there,

You can call me dumb if u like, but i have read thru the FAQ and it doesnt
seem to help with my problem (described in an earlier post) as some email
as suggested. My is problem is not that I dont understand what a disklabel
is nor is it why it is needed. I have been trying to write a disklabel
onto the disk without success. The disk is reconized by the kernel. If
i do a disklabel -w -r /dev/rwd1d <type> as suggested by the faq, i get

Bootstrap doesn't leave room for disk label

if i do a disklabel -w /dev/rwd1d <type> as suggested by the manual, i get

 disklabel: ioctl DIOCWDINFO: No disk label on disk;
use "disklabel -r" to install initial label

ok so i do a disklabel -r /dev/rwd1d as per instructed, i get the disklabel
list but i get on the top line,

Bad pack magic number (label is damaged, or pack is unlabeled)

well i knew the pack is unlabeled and it is suppoed to put one in but it
doesnt seem to want to. Is tehre something i missed out? I mean the kernel
version of the disklabel is fine, i can even newfs the drive and mount it
cept after newfs i get:

newfs: ioctl (WDINFO): No such process
newfs: /dev/rwd1a: can't rewrite disk label

but i can still moiunt the drive (until the machine reboots and fsck
will die when it does not find the disklabel. Did i miss out something?
something i had to prepare the disk b4 disklabeling? dos partition?
dos format (grrr) ? please help ;P

regards
