I ALWAYS get the following problem when using cpio on this drive. Configuration : 386DX / 20 AMI BIOS 1987 - a bit old I know :-( AHA 1542A SCSI controller 2 SCSI disks : a Quantum 207MB (from a Sun) a Micropolis 300MB (also from a Sun) Archive Viper QIC-150 (Also also from a Sun) 386BSD 0.1 pk 0.2.4 (with Julian's SCSI, sio + codrv) I can write to the drive without any apparent problems using find / -print | cpio -ovBc > /dev/rst0 All seems ok, the write finishes, but when I go to read the tape again, I get : cpio -ivBct < /dev/rst0 40755 root 0 Aug 19 22:51:33 1993 . 100755 root 496498 Aug 15 17:31:02 1993 386bsd.old 100644 root 191 Jul 14 02:15:30 1992 .profile 100755 root 496498 Aug 15 18:07:33 1993 386bsd 100755 root 496498 Aug 15 18:07:33 1993 0000000e 100755 root 496498 Aug 15 18:07:33 1993 0000001e 100755 root 496498 Aug 15 18:07:33 1993 cpio: Out of phase--get help the "0000000e" and "0000001e" are not real filenames. PS : This bit me in the bum the other day when I went to re partition my system disk. I repartitioned, ran mkfs, then when I went to restore the data, guess what? Argggg ..... Anyway that's another story..... Any help appreciated.... Also any information on why I cant seem to get either 386bsd or MS/DOS (using aspi4dos) to recognise an old Sun 60MB QIC drive would be appreciated. This drive is from an old Sun386i and uses the Emulex MT-02 SCSI controller board with an Archive drive. -- Mathew Lim, Unix Systems Programmer, ANU Supercomputer Facility, Australian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia 0200.
