(from Greek mythology) or An attendant spirit; a genius. While ``demon'' has these and several other meanings including the evil spirit or devil that you seem to be refering to. "Attendent spirit" seems to fit the unix use of ``deamon''. : and we should all shun it (and any variants) in favor of the One True Unix, : the Almighty System V. There is a lot of BSD code in System V. According to the the lawsuit filed by the Regents of UCB against USL, upto 50% of System V is BSD code. The same suit asks that the BSD code be removed from System V. Which, in my opinion, would kill "The Almight System V."
