I have a i486DX/33Mz machine with an Adeptec 1542B SCSI interface in factory default configuration and 2 SCSI disks first being a Seagate ST1239N (200MB) second a Quantum PD1050iS and an Archive Viper 2525S 525MB tape streamer with version 007 roms. The problem is that the drive appears to work fine with DC6525 tapes both for reading and writing but refuses to read or any other type of tape. The system comes up with a "worm" error when ever this is tried I don't have the full error message as I nolonger have any of the tapes that caused it, but if required I can lay my hand on one and recreate it. I have tried to speak with Maynard in England but all they say is the verion 007 revision rom fixed most if not all bugs related to the drive. I did manage to speak with one bod at Manyard and seemed to think it was because their was no jumper accross cf1 and this would allow the drive to auto select the correct physical block size of the tape but according to my incredably informative :-) manual all this does is select a 4k buffer disconect. This jumper did nothing to fix the problem and also did not make it any worse. The tape is id 2 but configured as the first physical device on the scsi bus, with the Segate being configured as id 0 and the last physical device and terminated correctly. The machine is currently configured with 8MB of memory and a 256K cash I give this information as I don't know if it is relevent. Not mentioned above the system is currrently running 386BSD split accros both disks with DOS partitions on both disk also. I will try any thing to get this fixed as it would make my life so much easier with beaing able to transfer files to and from work and from another machine that uses a 150MB Archive Viper tape drive and 386BSD. By the way we both have the same revision level of 386BSD which leads me to belive that the problem is physical. Thank you in advance. David Dooley -- You must teach your children that the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of our Grandfathers. So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin. Teach your children what we have tought our children, that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. If men spit upon the ground they spit on themselves. This we know. The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites the family. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life, he is mearly a strand in it. Whateverhe does to the web, he does to himself. Chief Seattle's Testimony, 1854.
