The NE1000 doesn't work with 386BSD; the driver is for NE2000 only.  Even
with this, the default IRQ for NE2000 clones is 3, whereas 386BSD defaults
to 2/9.  I have run with a couple different NE2000 clones quite successfully.
Just switch it to IRQ 2, and you're flying.  NE2000 clones can be had for
$80 (less if you shop hard); why not upgrade to a 16-bit card?
