I have managed to get X working. I simply restored my old (NetBSD0.8) 
/usr/X386 directory structure, and then ran the script x386install from
/usr/X386/lib/X11/etc .

It requires the "COMPAT_NOMID" in your kernel (the GENERICAHA kernel has this).

I do however get lots of hate messages about /etc/spwd.db being the wrong
format - presumably because of the new db library.
