Yes, I went around and around on this with Henry Spencer, over the build script in Cnews. What I eventually did was split it in two: once to save state, and one part to apply the changes. I offered this fix to him, and he didn't want people doing this. I can't understand that... Configure scripts are *fine*, if they are set up this way. You can use the configure script or you can edit config.sh directly and apply a reconfig script.
