There is a thread somewhere that is actually getting some answers on the subject. I used to have major problems with bad144 but now I have Netbsd 0.9 and installed it saying I have an st506 drive with no automatic bad sector remapping. It repartitions the disk slightly differently and bad144 actually works reliably now. I have an ide drive and even though the install script has an entry for ide I don't suggest using it if you need bad144 to work.
