Another nice thing about Research UNIX v7 on the PDP-11s was that the
whole thing was small enough that one person could understand what was
going on in most places most of the time.  

All of the later dialects and versions were large enough that it was
pretty unusual for one person to really understand what was going on
in most places most of the time.  System V r4.2-ES is reportedly a
good example of this sort of bloat.
