Date: 3 Sep 1993 13:55:58 -0500 Having problems getting 4.4 BSD booted single user on a SUN IPC or running multiuser for more than a couple minutes on an IPX using the /vmunix kernel provided on the distribution tape. Any hints or suggestions are welcome. 1) With a Sun IPC, the kernel jumps into the firmware after printing fd at mainbus0 ioaddr 0xf7200000 not configured while the machine is booting. 2) With a Sun IPX, the kernel boots multiuser with TCP/IP configured and working. However, after at most one or two minutes the machine panics or hangs with some of the following messages: a) trap type 0trap type 0x2: pc=f8013cdc npc=f8013ce0 psr=90400ec5<S,PS> trap type 0x2: pc=f8013bd0 npc=f8013bd4 psr=90400fc0<S,PS> panic: illegal instruction dumping to dev 701, offset 8 dump esp0: selection failed (target=0): stat=93<INT,TC,CD,IO> step=4 dmacsr=94000001<AL,IP? intr=10<SVC> sd0: scsi write error 0xffffffff dump i/o error rebooting b) Watchdog reset Window Underflow c) trap type 0x2: pc=f8006984 npc=f8006988 psr=904000c0<S,PS> panic: illegal instruction Kenneth Smith kenneth@hal.com HaL Computer Systems (512) 794-2855 -- Kenneth A.
