I agree completely, which is why I wrote pkg_install for FreeBSD. The goal is to eventually build up source and binary packages for just about every general utility one might need, distributed in such a way that allows things to be easily added/deleted/upgraded without the user having to worry about the internal details. I think we've pretty much got the tools we need, now it's down to bundling up the packages.. There should be a pkg_install.tar.gz, along with a pkg_install.README on freebsd.cdrom.com sometime in the next day or two. I'm ready to do this part now, I'm just waiting to see if some folks have their packages ready to join it yet.. There are quite a few in the "holding pen" already. You, Amancio, [and anyone else] are more than encouraged to help bundle up some of the more interesting X apps! Just drop me a line and I'll let you know if anyone's working on your favorite X app already. >An OS effort combined with a solid applications group can >create an awesome *BSD system. It would be fantastic if You bet. FreeBSD can use all the help here it can get! Drop us a line if you're interesting in porting something.. FreeBSD-questions@freefall.cdrom.com Thanks.
