I read the solution of making /dev/console a sym link to /dev/vga, but that made xdm unable to initialize xconsole and didn't make the keyboard locking problem go away. I was fortunate enough to be logged in one time when it happened, and it was at the top of the hour, and since I was logged in I was able to kill my login xterm with fvwm rather than rebooting. When xdm took control with its login window I was once again able to type. I tried removing the hourly crontab entry, since the problem happened on the hour, but when I came home this morning my system was locked and I had to reboot. (Well, my keyboard was locked--but since I was at the xdm login screen I couldn't just logout with my mouse.) This is getting frustrating. But it still beats the hell out of DOS! -- John D.
