This was with a multi I/O card, a printer port on a HGC card might make a difference. My recommendation is to verify that your printer cable has *all* line connected. There are several cheap cables available that tie status lines to ground or leave them open, because stupid DOS does not use all of them ("But it works with DOS" - "Then use your computer for this toy OS only!").
