I could set up the PPP link and use telnet, ping rlogin ... very nice ! But X11 does not work correctly. I figured out that programs without fonts (like xeyes) do work, but programs with fonts don't. Obviously 'xlsfonts' hangs ! I had similar problems one year ago with a HP700 connecting to a SUN through a NOVELL gateway; wonderful heterogeneous world :) On the HP a call to 'subnetconfig' gets it to work by setting the MTU for distinct networks to 512. I tried to lower MTU and MRU on FreeBSD by setting these values to 296 before building a new kernel and called pppd with mru 296 (but did not recompile pppd !). Unfortunatly the problem does not disappear - what can I do ? May be it's worth to note that NFS also does not work.
