I could not get the TeX for 386bsd distribution (TeX01.5.tar.z) to work under NetBSD 0.8 or 0.9. I don't have X, and there is no easy way to get the thing to compile without it (I think due to X calls in Metafont). Also, there is a "ln -f" in the Makefile, which is not something that works with NetBSD's ln. The good news is that the regular TeX for Unix distribution compiles with no problems (under 0.9 at the very least). This includes the latest TeX and Metafont programs. You have to get some supporting files from different places, but the directions in the comp.text.tex FAQ are quite clear. I also managed to get dvips working. I am still without a printer driver for my dot matrix. I tried to get Ghostscript going: it compiles (although the executable initially barfed on one of the config files; compiling without -O fixed this. This may be because I lack a floating point unit), but I couldn't quite grasp the mechanics of using it. Perhaps if you have bothered to read this far and you are familiar with this program, you could fill me in. Dave -- dhhoveme@rodan.syr.edu
