(sigh) Message-ID: <1993Sep22.125520.20838@magic.tap.csiro.au> Summary: Does anyone know how to fix this netbsd bug carried over from netbsd 0.8 Keywords: netbsd, bug, hanging, dead.machine Sender: news@magic.tap.csiro.au (news) Nntp-Posting-Host: pest.ctpm.uq.oz.au Organization: CTPM and CSIRO Date: Wed, 22 Sep 1993 12:55:20 GMT Lines: 28 This is a rather frustating bug that seems to have been carried over from NetBSD 0.8. The symptons are, while doing or exiting something, the machine freezes. New processes can't be started, existing processes continue running for some time, the machine can respond to ping, but anything like telnet, finger, ftp etc .. is impossible the machine just hangs. Also, the harrd drive jsut keeps spinning. I'd asked mycroft about this bug since it plagued me rather frequently under netBSD 0.8, but i haven't the faintest idea wether he said it was fixed or it was going to be. Its _darn_ annoying, cause there's nothing to be done, cept physically walk to the machine and hit the reset key. (A bit hard to do when you've left the office for the day). I've been told its a 'hardware' problem, and have isntalled netbsd 0.9 on this new machine, but this problem has reappeared. The old hardware was a 486 dx50 with 8M of ram and a conner 170M drive. This box is a 486 dx266 with 8M of ram and 2 conner drives. sigh. if anyone has any ideas *why* exactly this happens, and how it could be fixed, please give me a yell. -jason.who.likes.his.netbsd.box.but.is.just.frustated.now jason@ctpm.uq.oz.au -- jason r andrade CRC for Tropical Pest Management jason@ctpm.uq.oz.au Network Manager Gehrmann Laboratories i just wanna be....
