The X system works well in monochrome, Nate and I have set up several machines of this type (DECpc's, I have up to 7 of 'em running at home, depending on the time of the week). To be blunt, you would be best to wait until XFree86 2.0 is out, the S3 server in there should work fine. The only gotcha is Nate and I are running FreeBSD as opposed to NetBSD, but it should just drop in. It works very well. But I think you're stuck until Xfree86-2.0 is released, or somebody fixes XS3 to run. I was going to mess with it, but decided to bail back to FreeBSD. -- Jaye Mathisen, COE Systems Manager (406) 994-4780 410 Roberts Hall,Dept. of Computer Science Montana State University,Bozeman MT 59717 osyjm@cs.montana.edu
