Subject: Bad pack magic number on 0.8 with IDE

I've encountered a problem. We have a 1Gig IDE drive that, due to the
fact that it has >1024 cylinders, devides itself into 2 drives (you have
to have two different configs in the BIOS or it doesn't work).

My problem is I've been trying to do a disklabel on the second "drive", but
ultimately failing. I can do a 'disklabel -e -r wd1' and the resulting
edit & save go off w/o a hitch. If I display the label, it comes back
with:
Bad pack magic number (label is damaged, or pack is unlabeled)

The label looks just fine. No problems there, but it won't let me use it...

Anyone with suggestions, it would be helpful.
