Date: Wed, 22 Sep 1993 15:21:19 -0400 Organization: Fifth yr. senior, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh, PA Lines: 14 Message-ID: <Ugc_Kjy00WBK02qtJw@andrew.cmu.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: po5.andrew.cmu.edu In-Reply-To: <27prj3$ifd@pdq.coe.montana.edu> Maybe instead of a release date on XFree86-2.0 one could publish a quick description of the current status? (fixing minor bugs, core dumps, etc.) It doesn't have the effect of people thinking it is going to be out on a certain date but offers things like "major problems in section xxx" would let us know that it will be a while. If we know what we're waiting for, it would make the wait a bit more bearable. (with the usual attitude that things may still change, etc.) And you could state your policy about not releasing beta code to the public in big capital letters at the top so people don't reply asking where the beta code is.
