Everything went wonderfully through the installation process. The problems started when I tried to download the base sets from sun-lamp. During ftp, I started getting "ahb0 targ 0: device timeout" errors, then frantic synching behavior, then a reboot into unix. I did get everything downloaded and installed and went home somewhat happy. This morning, I came in and found the screen full of "sd0 device timeout" errors. It wouldn't let me even halt the system (too many timeouts, and it would respond with an error). I rebooted (which took me out of single-user mode) everything seems to be working fine. I did change some of the CMOS defaults (removed EISA burst mode, and added BIOS shadowing for example). Of course, it worked fine last night for a bit. Unfortunately, I've been working in the Mac world for several years, so I am still somewhat confused by pcs. EISA setup blew me away! My system: Zenon 50 MHz 486 DX2 8 meg RAM Cirrus Logic chipset video Novel 2000 clone ethernet (thin) Adaptec 1742a SCSI adapter 2 340 meg Maxtor SCSI drives If anybody can help me, I would eternally grateful. Especially if this person knows a bit about the Adaptec 1742a (which seems to be where the problem is coming from). ()()()()()()()()()()()()() ETS--Education Technology Services ()()()()() D.
