I got a modified copy of bad144 that scans for bad areas on the hard disk & modified the installation script to allow usage of that when needed. The new bad144 looked like it worked ok but then my hard drive died so I really won't know either way until I get another. Either that or convert my other hard disk from dos to unix (and it's only a 70 meg). Basically it's my understanding that if you have an ide drive you DO NOT want to use the bios media analysis or formatter or whatever. You run the real risk of screwing up the factory installed low-level format. I think that is one thing that contributed to the downfall of my dead ide drive.
