The patches for this have been sent to the *BSD people some time ago; I haven't looked to see if they've been implemented yet. No, I did not originate the patches, but I had the same complaint. If you can't get patched "plain old resolv" ...then FTP a package call "resolv+" -- it does exactly what you want and is available from most popular archive sites.
