Thanks for any >info. I'm making two assumptions here. One, that you're running FreeBSD, and two that you really meant 16450s when you said 16440s. With the sio lines, to use them for outgoing traffic (as opposed to putting a getty on them or using them for mice), you need to set them up to allow outgoing traffic. # stty -clocal -f /dev/sio01 should do the trick for you.
