I've successfully (with some help from my friends) gotten my ether-net card
up and running under FreeBSD on my '486. However, inetd isn't doesn't seem
to be answering requests comming in. I can't telnet to my own machine, for
example, nor can I ftp to myself (and I can't telnet/ftp/finger my machine
from other unix boxes in the office). The connection is established, but
no prompt shows up. (Twice, for no reason and by no means that I can re-
produce, I -did- get a login prompt when telnetting to my own machine.)

Inetd is running (status Ss -- asleep). I'm using the default
/etc/inetd.conf file, along with the default /etc/services file that came
with the distribution. Telnetd, nor ftpd, don't show up on the task list
when someone is trying to connect in. Also--running /usr/libexec/telnetd
all by itself gives a error (I can't recall what it is right now).

I -can- telnet/ftp/finger from the '486 to other machines without any
problems.

Thanks in advance for any assistance; I'd like to solve this one on my own
but could use any pointers anyone may offer. This is probably another FAQ
that I've overlooked (and I wouldn't mind being pointed in that direction
if necessary).

ps--thanks to those who replied to my query on using the ether-net card.
It was a simple solution, and I hope the inetd problem has a simular
'simple' answer.
