I have installed netbsd 0.9 and XFree86 1.3 during the last week. First comment, I actually have bsd and X running on a PC! Amazing! My thanks to all responsible. There are some problems but I've also noticed some 'problems' with the sunos, aix, and vms machines i get to coax thru each day at work. Anyway, I had this problem while in X with thekeyboard freezing after awhile. Reading thru the bsd news groups I saw mention of a "fix' that seemed to fit my situation. This consisted of turning the vga getty off in /etc/ttys. And you know, it seemed to work! So well in fact that I forgot to undo the fix before exiting X. And then soemthing had died because there was no terminal to return to... OK, boot single user (-s) which then of course brings up the root partition in read-only mode! Wonderful, except that what I need to fix is /etc/ttys because I had turned getty off. Try boot -sw which i have done on suns to no avail. Can't do kill -TERM 1 because I'm not there. Can't do anything that I can think of that will allow me to fix the line in ttys... Thanks for the answer, suggestions, chuckles.
