I had the same problem when I was using NCSA telnet. I don't have a fix,
but I can say that since I've switched to CUTCP telnet (Clarkson University
TCP) I've had NO trouble. In general, it seems cleaner and more robust than
the NCSA package (even though I THINK CUTCP is built on the NCSA source).
I heartily recommend CUTCP....available from ________ (some ftp site)!
