Just a correction: 'hundred floppies' is not correct! kernel and file system : 3 floppies bin distribution : 14 floppies XFree86 1.3u1 : around 10 floppies In fact, after the kernel and file system (3 floppies), you can ftp the rest directly into the system and install. You don't need floppy any more. I have installed the system (with XFree86) in less then 30 floppies.
